IgniteData secures £1/2 million Innovate UK grant for ground-breaking clinical trial data project

Maidenhead UK, 26 March 2024 – IgniteData, a global leader in the fast accurate transfer of regulatory-grade data between electronic healthcare records (EHR) and study databases, has received £1/2 million from Innovate UK Smart Grants to fund a transformative clinical research data project. This grant is earmarked for a pioneering project aimed at revolutionizing the landscape of clinical trials. The project leverages cutting-edge data transfer technology to streamline the process of clinical research, promising to bring about transformative changes in the field.

IgniteData is at the forefront of clinical trial data transformation through Archer, its system-agnostic data transfer technology. Archer replaces laborious and error-prone manual data transcription processes, enabling researchers to rapidly transfer structured data (such as Vital Signs and Labs) from a hospital’s EHR to a sponsor’s study database. The Innovate UK funding will enable IgniteData to build on existing work addressing the challenges around unstructured data (such as diagnoses, clinical procedures and free text notes) and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing data accessibility for clinical studies.

Clinical trials stand as the cornerstone of medical advancement, driving the development and approval of novel treatments and therapies. However, the traditional methods of conducting clinical studies often face challenges related to data management and analysis. Here, IgniteData’s initiative holds immense promise, focusing on enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical trial data management.

Innovate UK supports business and research collaborations to accelerate innovation and drive business investment into R&D. IgniteData was first awarded Innovate UK funding for Archer in 2019 as part of government support for the UK’s next generation of innovative businesses.

IgniteData CEO Dan Hydes said, “Once again we are honoured and grateful to receive this extremely valuable funding from Innovate UK for such an important digital transformation project.

“Unstructured data accounts for a significant proportion of the data required for clinical studies and, thanks to projects like this, researchers will ultimately find it much easier to populate study databases and complete transfers of all the data elements needed for trials – to the benefit of hospitals and their sponsors and of course, the patients who need new treatments to be delivered as fast as possible.”
